Launched in 2012, The Coffee Academics has made quite a name for itself in Hong Kong, and has expanded itself to Singapore. They have appeared on Buzzfeed and was listed as one of “25 coffee shops around the world you have to see before you die” and it was also named by Telegraph as “the world’s best coffee shop.” With such reviews, we decided to check it out their branch in Scotts Square.

According to The Coffee Academics, their passion for coffee leads them to source for top quality specialty coffee beans from all over the world, roast them and create blends to bring out distinct aromas.

Feeling adventurous that day, we ordered a cup of Okinawa Coffee ($7.50) and Pepper Agave Latte ($7.50). Our brunch – Scrambled Eggs with Crayfish ($22) is described to be toasted bread topped with scrambled eggs, crayfish and caviar, drizzled with beurre noisette and served along with mixed seasonal green salad. The scrambled eggs were soft and creamy, whilst the crayfish tasted bland. In addition, some parts of the egg were more salty than the others.

To end our meal, we got ourselves the Academics Pancake Tower ($19), which really made our day. It got us excited when it arrived at our table. Not only was it beautifully presented, but the piping hot, thick and fluffy pancake totally satisfied our palettes. The delectable pancake tower goes really well with their ice cold berry sorbet, which was sweet and slightly sour. The whipped cream, on the other hand, wasn’t light and fluffy so we didn’t really like it with the pancake.
