Haakon has been around in Holland Village for awhile now, and they’ve recently added more items onto their main menu at their new outlet in 313@Somerset. Striving to provide customers with Scandinavian tropical flavours, their dishes promote balance, mindfulness and freshness.

Cacao Bliss bowl ($7.90/$12.90) is a blend of raw cacao and organic acai, topped with almond flakes, granola, cacao nibs and seasonal fruits on top. Mix well, because there’s lots of hidden chia seeds at the bottom. Additional toppings like bee pollen, almond butter or even goji berries are available for $1 each. We thought that the fruits looked aesthetically pleasing and picture-ready, but were too difficult to mix in, especially with our small cup (don’t make the same mistake as we did – get the bigger size!). The consistency of our acai left much to be desired, as it was too watery and chunks of ice were not blended properly. I would have preferred it to be creamier.

Salmon Zoodles ($12.90) features pan-fried salmon fillet, fried egg, edamame and zucchini noodles, in miso sauce. The sauce tasted distinctly of roasted sesame, and the ‘zoodles’ were crunchy and refreshing. While it doesn’t taste anything like the real deal, it’ll (hopefully!) trick your brain into thinking you’re having a satisfying carb-filled meal. The fried egg was done sunny-side up style, with a runny centre. I thought that the feta cheese on top of the salmon didn’t do much for the dish. On the whole, it felt like a jazzed up healthy tasting salad bowl.

On the whole, Haakon provides a great alternative spot to chill out with friends in town, since they are conveniently located just outside Somerset MRT. Power plugs are aplenty, and you can even tap on the free WiFi from the mall at 313. While their salad bowls might be overpriced, the novelty of having zoodles (zucchini made into noodles) is definitely there. Come here to try other items that aren’t available at their Holland Village outlet, and for some guilt-free meals.
