Sawasdee! Countless of us Singaporeans flock to Bangkok on a yearly affair to savour the combination of aroma and spices found in authentic Thailand cuisine. Why not take a detour and visit Saap Saap Thai, a Thai Restaurant located at the newly established Tampines Hub? Surely our muslim friends would be pleased to hear that it is also MUIS halal-certified! No wonder diners were swooping in even before lunchtime!

Saap Saap Thai’s Original Iced Thai Milk Tea ($3.00) is thick and rich, but not as sweet as the ones found on the streets of Thailand.

The tom yum broth in the Seafood Carribean with noodles ($9.90) was watery and not as spicy as I liked it to be. What stood out for me was the Signature Australian Beef Boat Noodle ($7.90). The broth nicely captures the sweetness of the beef. Bite into that tender, moist beef slice to unravel a sweet and savoury combination that will surprise your palette. Just remember to quickly mix it up before the noodles clumps tiogether.

The Basil Chicken Slice Rice ($7.90) offers chunkier pieces of basil chicken that digresses from the usual minced chicken you find in Thailand. Although I think the aroma of the dish could be better enhanced with more chillies and garlic, some diners may appreciate Saap Saap Thai’s subtle use of these spices.

If you’re in a group or just plain insatiable , you can also try their succulent wings and drumettes with their tangy saap saap sauce ($6.90)!

To complete the quasi-Thai cuisine experience, finish off with a plate of signature Mango Tango ($5.50) which serves up a slightly sourish mango that complements the sweet sticky rice. The rice might be a tad dry for some, so remember to douse it in the coconut milk.
